Since there is not a real Fix-it Felix with a golden hammer like in the movie Wreck-it Ralph, home owners often have to make difficult decisions when it comes to home repair. Sometimes the money is not readily available to just fix everything so we choose to live with rotting trim, cracked drywall, or fraying carpet. However, when it’s time to sell your home, it’s time to address as many of those needs as possible. It is not only for the sake of helping your home sell faster, but it’s the right thing to do for the buyers.
Too often I see homes where the seller has attempted to hide the flaws. Instead of hiding or trying to cover up flaws in your home, fix them. Don’t paint over rotting trim boards hoping the inspector won’t find them. Don’t just put Kilz on a ceiling water stain. Don’t put a throw rug over broken floor tiles or wine stained carpet.
Be honest. Think about how you want to be treated by the sellers of the next home you are buying. Moreover, fix it right. You’ll be glad you did when you run into the buyer of your home at Home Depot.
